Nearly 2 years ago X-Rite released the Color Munki, and I have been using mine for the last 6 months. Basically it works very well. It is a very small compact unit which has the ability to calibrate your monitor, and printer. It also can calibrate projectors (however, I do not have a projector to try it out on. It does have a straight forward interface, but that does not make it a simple product to use.
At $350 -Amazon or B&H PhotoVideo their are other cheaper options on the market, but really I have found any other solution which does as good of a job. I personally print my own photos, and have never been happy with the results that I have received. In response I have bought other very expensive solutions to make my own profiles. The results were as good, but when you compare the $1000’s verses a $350 dollars for the color munki you are getting the unit for a steal in my opinion.
The key I have found is to be sure that you are not double calibrating your prints, you either use your computer (and the software to manage the colors such as PhotoShop, Lightroom etc) Or you use the printer to manage the colors. With a profile built by Color Munki you must make sure that the color calibration is turned off on the printer, or else you will never get satisfactory results.
All in all I recommend checking out other reviews (Such as this from Northlight, which I have very little to add to), but I would encourage you to seriously consider buying a Color Munki to manage your monitor and printer profiles. This is a serious product for those who want to spend time making the best prints possible, and really it isn't for everyone.
