1.C. High Speed ShutterOlympus has redesigned the shutter to an all new level of perfection. The E-3 is equipped with a high-speed shutter with a maximum speed of 1/8000 of a second, which in Super FP flash mode the flashes (Fl-50, FL-50R, FL-36, FL36R) will be able to act as a fill flash, They will also have a fast X-sync speed of 1/250 sec ideal for daylight syncro photography.
This super fast shutter will allow a person to shoot at maximum aperture even under most bright lit conditions, therefore using the full advantages of f2.0 glass.
The shutter is designed for professional use and is rated at 150,000 shot durability test. To build the shutter Olympus had to "increase precision while reducing transmission loss. A plastic containing carbon was used for the mirror box to provide twice the rigidity of conventional mirror boxes. 1.D. 54ms (TBD) release time lag
Olympus has shortened the time that the mirror raises and falls, so that you are able to both focus, and be able to track the subject as you shoot, they redesigned the shutter so that it simultaneously cocks the shutter and compresses the mirror sprint to enable virtually instantaneous mirror response.
1.E. 5FPS Sequential ShootingThe E-3 is built to shoot upto 5 FPS, you also can select less FPS if you like, for upto 16 frames in Raw before the Buffer starts to write to the card. Also in many cases until the card is full in Jpeg mode. Very nice upgrade to the E-1's raw buffer. In my limited tests of just hearing the buffer and seeing the light click it would seem that once the buffer fills if you keep holding down the shutter button it will slow down to 1 - 2 exposures per second after that until the card fills. (But I will have to wait till I get my hands on a production model to tell you more info) |
