What make the E-3 such a quality camera?
1. Speed
1.A. Auto Focus
Auto focus Olympus has nearly redesigned all aspects of the camera from the ground up to be a fast camera. If a camera can take 10 FPS but can't focus on even 1 of those shots, it is nearly useless. The first aspect of speed is the 11 point Full-Twin Cross Sensor.

Within each Autofocus point there are 4 data points. To help in situations in which normal focusing is difficult, they have off set a second set of data points a 1/2 step below for a total of 88 points in which the AF measures the distance However this seems to have been changed from my original brefing down to 44 points, so I am really confused now. The result the fastest Autofocus system on the market.

To help with measuring the AF points Olympus has engineered a new Auto AF sensor that has a very wide detective range from -2EV to 19EV AF.

Even the housing for the AF sensor has been designed for precision. As temperatures change the plastic around the housing can expand and contract, however, the housing has a temperature gauge built into it, to detect the slightest temperature changes of the housing, to secure accuracy.

Even in development Olympus took measurements from 1000's of photographer to understand where they focus, from that principle, and perhaps the musings on fourthirdsphoto, they have developed a new 11 point focus from the input of professional photographers.

The result is a reliable Auto focusing camera which will perform day in and out.

1.B. Supersonic Wave Drive (SWD) Motors.
Olympus has also begun placing the newly developed Supersonic Wave Drive motors within the lenses and Image Stabilization system. The 12-60mm lens mounted on the E-3 will produce the fastest focusing camera on the market as of fall 2007. The lenses have been designed to reduce moving parts, so that the lens is able to move quickly, and also stop extremely quickly. In combination with the new AF technology this equals an unbeatable pair.

Also 2 SWD motors are attached to the IS system of the E3.These in combination with the in body gyro allow the camera to be hand-holdable upto 5 stops. (However, testing will only tell in real life how good it really is. In my experience with a 350mm lens, 700mm in 35mm terms, I was able to get very sharp results at 1/80th of a second. But in real life, 1/80th of a second will not compensate for subject movement., a person should still understand the basic's of SLR photography.) All in all the SWD motors make for a quick camera in both focusing as well as in being able to stabilize the camera.
