The E-3 in Use and PracticeWritten by: Tony Spore
Intro Olympus has released a new camera, which has revolutionized Digital SLR cameras. Olympus has started from the ground up, to create the E-3 and it's unlike any other camera on the market. Four years ago, Olympus began designing a whole new digital SLR system and unlike other systems, which were tied to a film based system, Olympus started from the ground up, designing the lenses. The result is that the lenses are truly matched for digital sensors. Digital sensors are both a blessing and a curse, but no matter what, no one can deny that digital has revolutionized the camera world. Before moving on we have to think of the blessings, digital film is cheap. Instead of spending $100 on a shoot, we now have the abilities to use Compact Flash media. However, the result is vast amounts of files on your computers, which quickly add up to hundreds of Gigabytes of files, and extremely expensive computers to run them. Also, digital sensors have the ability to give us instant feedback of our images. However, unlike film, a digital sensor must have the light hitting the sensor squarely, or else image issues will arise. Also, dust becomes an issue with digital sensors. Because Olympus was not tied to any Film system, they were free to create the only all-digital SLR system. Only a few years ago the negative writers on the World Wide Web called the system a dead end. Some even claimed that the 4/3 system would never reach 10 Megapixel sensors. However, today there are 4 cameras on the market with 10 megapixel sensors, the E-410, E-510, L-10, and the E-3. Olympus has really shown that they are in this market for the long haul, and are willing to devote the effort to make it the best system on the market. A lot of the technical information has been posted in the first look section of the review, if you have not gone through it lately we would recommend that you do. It is located here.
