Olympus Micro Four Thirds Technology

An Extension of the existing Four Thirds Standard

Its goal according to Olympus is to be “Pocket-size interchangeable lens camera”


Olympus Micro Four Thirds in Brief

  • Slim body with an approximate 50% reduction of the flange back length.
    A concept mock-up camera will be on display at Photokina 2008. The concept will
    show an example of the compact size possible for MFT: 4.7”(W) 2.5”(H) 1.2”(D)
  • Smaller Lens; a 6 mm reduction in the lens mount diameter.
  • No compromise on high image quality.
  • Uses the same Live MOS sensor as the Four Thirds System.
  • Maintains telecentric optical system design even with the smaller lens mount diameter.
  • Easy to use for beginners with a“High Speed Contrast AF System” for focusing and composing on the LCD.
  • Takes advantage of Face Detection and Shadow Adjustment technologies.
  • All existing Four Thirds System Lenses can be used with the Micro Four Thirds System with an adaptor.
  • The image quality of an SLR-type camera with a compact camera’s portability
