Micro FourThirds Introduction
What it simply does is remove the mirror box from between the lens and the sensor, bringing the lenses closer to the imaging sensor. This will allow for the possiblity video, as well as rangefinders, and a whole host of other options.
In my opinion all in all this is very good and exciting news. What we have done is collected all the information avalible (as of 08-20-08) and placed it into this section of the site. Currently outside of the new system standard we have very little information. I have spent some time with Olympus America and came up with a basic Q&A found on page 5 of this section. When can we expect to see the first cameras and lenses for the system? At this time it is not fully known, but I would hope for PhotoKina at the end of September. Let me first say that Micro FourThirds is a few things. Number one in my opinion, it is the biggest news for the 4/3 system since the announcement of the E-1, 4 years ago. Second, the Micro FourThirds format is not designed to replace the traditional SLR FourThirds System. Third, we need to look at this as an agmentation of the standard.
