Electronic ViewfinderAll in all I think that the Electronic Viewfinders are the future of photography. In a few years all high end cameras will have them because of the advantages in viewing over a LCD. On the G1 I would say that the LCD is a 95% replacement over a traditional Optical viewfinder, It was able to track quickly even with moving cars, it also is large and bright. It is the best electronic viewfinder that I have ever used. A few times I was frustrated with the viewfinder, such as when I moved the camera to my eye, when I was wearing sun glasses, it for some reason would turn off the viewfinder and turn the LCD back on. Also, when I was pointing the viewfinder at a skylight the lamp next to the viewfinder disappeared in the viewfinder for some odd reason. Really, I think that for general shooting the viewfinder will be fine for use. One thing that I do like is the recent items menu on the G1, which allows you to quickly get back to the last 6 settings in the menu. I do wish that it incorporated the Super Control menu on the rear LCD like the Olympus cameras. I really enjoyed having the front control wheel which can be pushed in to change from Aperture/Shutter mode to +/- control, or in manual mode from Aperture control to Shutter control. MY biggest issue with the physical construction of the body is in the pistol style grip. I found it to be too small to hold comfortably. I had a hard time trying to adjust the control dial, hold the camera and press the shutter button. But in reality I assume that my hand is much larger than the majority of people (I am 6'7" tall, after all). |
